For Tatum’s death scene, it always seemed like someone would have seen her body. Visiting the home in person shows that the actual garage was located on the rear side of the property around the corner from the front door. Tatum’s death was in the original script so the natural layout of the house proved to be perfectly designed to not only be memorable but explainable inside the Screamverse. I was a little uncertain about the home’s provenance when I originally published this post. Thankfully, a fellow stalker named Mandy went on a deep dive into the nitty-gritty of the property’s history as well as that of its original owners and has filled in all the blanks! After Cotton Weary, who Stu originally framed for his first murder, is brutally murdered himself in February 2000, approximately 4 years after Stu's killing of Maureen Prescott in October 1995. It sparks a new chain of events, redirecting Sidney to her past, as well as that of her mother's. The murders inspire four copycat killing sprees, all of which his target, Sidney Prescott survives.
Life
After a couple of attacks, an argument breaks out and Amber finally reveals herself as a killer by shooting Liv and killing her. Amber runs outside and begs for Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers's help, but they catch the trap instantly and Amber shoots Gale and runs inside, getting back into the Ghostface costume. After the Principal of Woodsboro High, Arthur Himbry, announces that all classes are suspended and an early curfew is being enforced, Stu holds a party at the house while his parents are out. Aside from the fictional deaths of Tatum Riley and Kenny Jones, the house has seen two actual deaths — those of the original owners, Jack and Carolyn MacPhail.
Killings
During the investigation, Kirby and Wayne went over the previous nine Ghostface killers and had photographs of Stu and the others on an investigation board. Stu's old house 261 Turner Lane is revealed to be resided in by Amber, as Sidney warns Sam after tracking her. Sidney also states it is the house where her dad "and Stu killed everyone", though Tatum Riley was the only victim inside the house. The final act of the remake being set at a friend's house, in this case Kirby Reed's residence, 329 Whispering Lane, is a reference to his house in the original.

A horror movie fanatic, he went along with Billy's slasher film-like murder spree, the late-September 1996 Woodsboro Murders. The $2.8 million mansion with straight grain wood detailing is not in the fictional horror town of Woodsboro — in reality, it’s at the end of a lane in a 298-acre wedding venue in Tomales, California. The Archer Residences combines two existing buildings, The Archer and The Donahue – both of which formerly served as classroom and administrative offices for Suffolk University. The Archer building, the original Suffolk University School of Law, with its cast-concrete decorative panels, is evocative of the Classical Revival architectural style popular at its time of construction in the 1920s. The Donahue building was built in the 1960s and featured a Modernist brick design.
The directing duo just departed from the bloody board game come-to-life in Ready or Not. That film follows Samara Weaving fighting for her life inside a Gothic Revival-style mansion owned by her new in-laws who have a very messed up wedding tradition. So, perhaps it’s fitting that their next film, Scream (2022), features Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) returning to the very house that tormented her in the original back in 1996. Coincidentally, shortly after I began penning this article, the Grim Cheaper texted me a link about a Halloween party taking place at Stu’s house on October 31st, hosted by the same guys who put on Scream Comes Home. Apparently, the homeowners have recently decided to move onto the premises and though the place will still be available periodically as a special event venue, this will be the last time it is opened up to Scream fans. And if you're looking for something to do this Halloween, you can attend the two-day Halloween party being held at the house by Scream super fans Anthony Masi and Nate Ragon. They spent $22,000 to rent it out and tickets range from $200 to $1,750. At the $200 level you have general admissions, but for nearly $2,000 you can spend the night. Proving to be a legacy character all its own, the actual home can be found up a long country road at 3871 Tomales Petaluma Road in Tomales, California. Nestled on almost 300 acres, the Victorian-style abode was built back in 1990. It’s also been referred to as Elk Ranch due to a past owner who planned to raise elk on the sprawling property.
Although parts of Scream were shot on sets, other scenes are filmed in real buildings that were already standing prior to filming. Amber attempts to strangle Gale, but as Gale looks over and sees Sidney recovering, she headbutts Amber and kicks her into the stove. Amber's hand lands on one of the switches which turns it on before she falls over.
During this timeframe, Stu's parents had been out of town, and his sister was presumably away with them or away at College, dependent on her age. The Macher parents bought, or built, the house years before the events of Scream (1996). They presumably raised both Stu Macher and his sister, Leslie, in the house. It was originally intended to be re-used as the climax of both the third film (as a set-piece). And the fourth film (with Kirby Reed as someone who owned the house, but with it later being renovated).
The tour, which you can see below, is led by both James and Chelsea from the Dead Meat channel. The two go over all of the iconic spots in the house that were shown in the classic movie, and it’s such a great treat for fans. After all, many movies have locations that are built with stages or were torn down after a certain amount of time. As such, it really is great to see that Stu Macher’s iconic house from Scream still stands and looks the way it did in 1996. Dewey will greet a guest and three of their pals with a virtual check-in.
